Building the Foundations for your Online Business

I have been thinking a lot about the coming year and what I hope to achieve ….
I intend to take my time in building up my ‘online business’ and I do hope becoming reasonably sucessfull in my own way ….
Let me explain further, I was watching a program the other night with Amanda my wife, her mum and sister …. it was called ‘Holiday Homes from Hell’ …..
basically British people buying dream properties in Spain and the likes and the homes falling down round their ears sort of thing …..
The problem being the homes foundations were not built properly, so everything else fell down …..
This got me thinking about things within my life and the importance of good foundations both online and offline ….
For example, Trust and honesty in a marriage and doing as you are told !!
A Good Foundation for a happy marriage?
Ok, maybe again I have my tongue in my cheek, but you get the idea ….
Now this got me thinking about the foundations I am building online ……
as I mentioned above I am not going to anyone’s timetable but my own …
I have posted my online goals for the next 90 days granted and hope to achieve them, these I look at the material goals but not my foundations ….
The foundations, I am talking about are building relationships online ….
This I love, it amazes me still as to how releationships and friendships can be built online and be so strong, even though you might never physically meet them ….
So people like Alex Jeffreys, John Thornhill, Ray Johnson, Randy Smith, Richard Fenn, Gary Simpson, Garry Parkes, Nikki Stephens, Dean Holland, Mark McWilliams, Paula Brett to name a few, (there are too many to mention)……
These special people in one way or another have played a part in helping me ‘build my foundations’ and for that I thank you all 
Now no matter what your goals are in 2009 …..
Quit your job?
Provide some extra income for your family?
Get out of debt?
Whatever it maybe, make sure you have strong foundations, if you do then the rest of your online business will be solid

As my subscribers and readers will have seen in my last post, Alex Jeffrey is running his mentoring course, and I have seen some great videos being produced by his students….
The reason being to see how much traffic can be generated, if I am correct the winning video will win a cash prize?
I am not part of the mentoring course, but have been assisting others where I can who are part of the F500. I have also been lucky enough to strike up some good online friendships with Garry Parkes, Gary Simpson, Dean Holland and not to forget the Purple Blog Queen – Nikki Stephens to name a few …..
Now having read on the students blogs of what they were trying to achieve …. I wondered how much traffic could I generate to my blog by creating an Alex Jeffrey’s video, just for fun and research purposes.
So here it is, drumroll please !!! ……… Alex Jeffreys – This is your Life!
Some readers have emailed me and also posted on my blog about trying to come up with ideas for their own videos…….
My advice is try and not think too hard, for me that was easy as I am not the sharpest tool in the box at times…..
It can be very easy to over complicate things, here is my story of how the above video was born ….
I had been viewing some of the Alex Jeffrey’s videos on Youtube and felt inspired, honest …..
I was reading a post on the Internet Temple Goo Roo himself Gary Simpson’s blog and mailed him to say I was thinking of creating a video to test what he had written on his blog , this was Monday past,
I work hard offline in my ‘day job’ so was not able to give too much thought to my ‘Alex Jeffrey – Theme’ ……
It was Wednesday now, and my good lady wife was going to work (I work shifts ) and was thinking about ‘What could I do???’
I then came up with ‘This is your Life’ theme, hopefully by now you will have viewed the video above ……
Now, this is where the don’t overcomplicate things (unless you are a video/musical editing wizard)
I had initially searched the internet to find the This is your Life Soundtrack
I would have that play and fade and begin the video commentary
I created my webpages in Dreamweaver and sourced the pictures etc for video
I then watched Nitin Mistry’s How to Video’s for editing music etc (this man is a talent!)
At this point, I thought ‘Tommy, you are over complicating things, and remember your ‘techie’ limits!’
I then decided to do a Dennis Waterman (Little Britain Style) Write the theme toon, Sing the theme toon etc, I intended to sound as bad as I did (HONEST!)
The antibiotics are still working their magic
For those of my overseas readers that may be scratching their heads Dennis Who? Little What? ……
Dennis Waterman is an actor who has starred in The Sweeney, Minder, New Tricks etc, he writes, sings the theme tune and stars in the program etc, Little Britian Comedy Show did a ’spoof’ of these facts and also that when the met him he seemed a whole lot smaller than he seems on the screen ……

I guess I am trying to see how much traffic a ‘bad’ video can produce….
In my defense, I am still only about 60-70% fit, given the severe dose of Man Flu I have had lingering 4-5 weeks ….
If anything, hopefully the video will motivate others to give it a bash, as it can’t be any worse than mine lol

Alex Jeffrey’s Video Traffic Tornado Competition
By · CommentsAs some of my subscribers/readers will know Alex Jeffrey is currently running his internet marketing mentoring course.
I watched with great interest as the students have progressed throughout the course so far, and is showing that what Alex is teaching is working ……
Anyways back to the reason for the post, one of the modules that the students are completing at the moment is traffic generation, I have also read and heard that Alex has set a competition to his ‘peeps’ to create a video to pull in major traffic, I have had a smile and a laugh at a couple I have seen so far ….
Firstly, this is Nitin Mistry’s Video, very catchy and a contender for the next X-Factor me thinks…..
The Second video I have seen to day is Garry Parke’s video, gives a different slant and brought a smile to my face, I wonder where he got the bell idea from — Gazz-Man?? lol !! ** Look out for the Guitar Hero Display **
There is also a romour that there may be a Traffic Tornado coming from Down Under soon!! And no I did not have a bad curry !!! lol !!!
Any comments or if you have a better video let me know as I need a good laugh !
My Online Goals for next 90 Days in 2009
By · CommentsWell having gleaming some interesting information from some of the Alex Jeffrey’s students blogs and John Thornhill etc, I liked the idea of cutting your goals into sectors or small chunks ….
Given a timescale of around 90 days which when I think about it is around a quarter of the year so makes perfect sense so here it is :
In the next 90 days I hope to have:
Completed my new product and launched by mid to end February 2009
now I know that seems a long time, however some of the tasks I need to outsource and I have to wait till end of January 09 to get this part done.
Complete an article for submission to Garry Parkes Profit Pulling Platform newsletter in March 2009
Now my idea is to show step by step show how I created my new product in February 09, and help others possibly do the same.
Launch my new membership website in March 09?
This may tie in with above article to Garry Parkes Newsletter
That is all I guess for now, I will also try and get a handle of article marketing as well….
Now I have a good friend of mine Dean Holland, who in the last 90 days has managed to earn around $3,500 ( fantastic result, well done bro! )
He asked for feedback about a makeover for his blog, and had a couple of options he was mulling over I was actually at work and made a quick comment, and most others concurred …..
To invest his money into other avenues of his business rather than the blog design, some others also rightly said that people will come, I just want to reinforce this by giving some examples:
John Thornhill’s Blog ( See any similiarities to his blog and mine? lol !! )
Alex’s Jeffrey’s Blog
Mike Filsaime’s Blog
Gary Simpson’s Blog
Garry Parke’s Blog
Thats is just some examples, but I am sure that you can see a common theme, they are not all singing and dancing blogs design-wise, but they are busy and no doubt earning money ….
I would suggest getting a wordpress theme that suits you and customising it with graphics if you wish, I used Planet Divinity Graphics for mine and can recommend them, i will be using them again shortly
It can be difficult for everyone at times to decide how best to reinvest the capital into an online business, I would suggest to take your time, as I know it can seem it may be burning a hole in your pocket, but you need to be sure to make the right choice …..
I am thinking the best way for me in 2009, is product creation to try and create multiple income streams and hope that this will be the year I might actually make some money online …..
I have been Dean in the past, the difference being I did not have the support mechanism that Dean has, where you can think out loud on your blog and get support and advice ….
Man, I have wasted so much money on bad choices and purchases,so much so I think I had to include the Hard Drive of the computer on my Home Insurance given the amount of stuff on it and what it cost me, that I have not used ….
On a positive note that will change in ‘09!
I would give this advice to Dean or anyone who is wondering how to reinvest in themselves or online business ……
Check the Marketplace see what others around you are doing, and if need be replicate it, think of the Mike’s, Alex’s, John’s, Ray’s, Garry’s etc have done and to very great success ….
I remember mentioning a few months ago, that Dean may well be the next Alex Jeffrey’s, I still believe that this still to be the case given the start to his online career ….

Well we are now 4 days into the New Year …..
How’s the Head?
Thankfully, I don’t drink much if at all, so I am raring to go …. like most people, I had family visiting over the festive period …. so made a point of not to be online much, as family is important as is a healthy balance in life ….
I have not been totally idle as I have been jotting down ideas and plans of how to start putting into place my goals for 2009 …..
As some of my subscribers/readers will have been following previous posts, helping and showing you how to set up a blog etc ……
This is now where I need your help and/or opinion …..
While I know some of my readers/subscribers now have there blogs up and running (Well Done!)
Could I ask you to cast your mind back to the first day that you decided that you wanted to create your own blog ……
Yeah, I know it seems so long ago …. lol !! but homour me
What were the things you struggled with?
If you were to try and create your own blog, what information do you wish you had to make the task easier?
Is there anything that you are still unsure or struggling with?
If you are a reader, who is maybe more blog savvy, feel free to chip in all the same
Please be as honest as possible, everything will be come clear as to why I am asking in due course, I have kept the questions vague to a degree as I do not want to put ideas to you, but want to find out from my readers/subscribers exactly what they would want or wish they had when starting out ….

I have had some questions and emails about how to create a simple redirect link for a blog or to include within your eBook …
I know that some of my readers/subscribers are following Dean at his blog and unfortunately still experiencing problems …
This got me thinking, how many other people are needing help, but are struggling on…..?
I would suggest to those that are having problems, the best thing to do if you can’t fix it, is to ask for help or advice, while I myself also struggle to do this at times, I have found with experience that it is best just to ask for help and advice …..
Why? …..
because before you know it you may have spent a few hours trying to fix or follow steps to complete a task, each time you fail, getting slowly disheartened and before you know it you are powering down your computer.
What had started as a positive day, with your to-do list at the ready and goals to hand, you will have written off your day no further forward…
while if you ask for help wether it be at a blog like mine, send an email or post a question on a forum …
Now, you might say “but how long before I get an answer?” …….
it may not be immediate, however think about the other tasks you could be working on while waiting for the answer …..
do you see where i am going here …. 1, 2, 3 ?
you get the solution to the task you were having some problem ( for some this will be the video below and before you know it you have a handful of tasks completed )
Now, I do not want this to seem as a sermon, but just to try and help my readers/subscribers to get into the ‘mindset’ of seeking help if they need it ….

Wordpress Version 2.7 is here!

I have had a few emails from some readers/subscribers about the latest version of Wordpress which is 2.7
I can appreciate why some people seemed worried given that the Admin Dashboard is totally different ….
This may have thrown some people, given some emails stating ‘they don’t know how to use it, please help!’
Firstly, I would like to reassure readers/subscribers of my blog, the Wordpress Blog does the exact same things the previous version does.
If anything there have been some improvements made, mainly the Plugins install feature, Quick Press Feature and at a glance comments, to name a few
I have created a very quick video, showing the ‘new’ admin dashboard, you will have to excuse me if I sound a bit ‘croacky’, but I have a servere dose of Man-Flu.
I have muddled up a well known saying ( blames the Man Flu ), can anyone spot it?
Some of the questions, I have also recieved is ’should I upgrade to Wordpress 2.7?’ , this is a personal preference, I will be holding off until I know all Wordpress Plugins I am using are compatible with the latest version.
I would suggest that you should be using Wordpress 2.6.5 at the very least, given the bug fixes and features.
I will do a more detailed video shortly, once I have totally familiarised myself with the 2.7 Version and all it’s features

Do you know what …. the above statement is true, the problem most new marketers encounter ….
‘How do I get people to subscribe to my list?’
Well, I will hold my hands up now, I am not a listbuilding expert, I do not profess to be ….
All that I have learned is from other marketers that have mammoth lists of subscribers …. as I have mentioned on other blogs and now my own …..

Why? ….. it could be bad luck …. could be where within your blog you have placed it ….maybe the visitor was only on you blog 30 secs and left ….
